After the public fallout between Donald Trump and Elon Musk, Bitcoin tumbled back to $100K, dragging sentiment into fear territory. However, over the past 24 hours, BTC has staged a sharp rebound—ripping back above $104K with a textbook ‘V-shaped’ recovery that nearly erases the entire pullback. As a result, sentiment has shifted back into neutral territory, with the Fear & Greed Index now reading 52, up from yesterday’s fear levels.

Altcoins joined the bounce, but unlike Bitcoin, most remain below their pre-fallout levels. The exception was Sui, which surged nearly 10% and is now trading above where it stood before the political disruption.

Trump Refocuses on Powell

The White House swiftly shut down rumours of a Trump–Musk phone call, signalling no progress on that front. Instead, Trump has pivoted back to Jerome Powell, posting repeatedly on Truth Social. He called Powell “Mr Too Late” and urged a 100bps rate cut at the next FOMC meeting—suggesting that even if inflation ticks back up, rates could be raised again. Trump also teased that he’s ready to announce his pick for the next Fed Chair.

All this sets the stage for Thursday night’s CPI print, a key data point that will shape expectations ahead of the Fed’s interest rate decision the following week.

Weekend Watch: Bitcoin at a Crossroads

This weekend is critical. The momentum BTC reclaimed must hold to set the tone for what’s likely to be a volatile week. If strength continues, bulls could be gearing up for a push to new all-time highs. But a rejection could drag BTC back below the $100K mark.

Stormrake Spotlight: Bittensor (TAO) ($367)

TAO mirrored the broader altcoin market—bouncing 4.5% on the day—but still trades below pre-fallout levels. Price respected CPR support at $347, which now acts as the key short-term level. The bears are pressing, attempting to stall the recovery.

As noted yesterday, TAO will follow BTC’s lead, so the path of least resistance still lies with Bitcoin’s next move.

BTC/USD Key Levels and Price Action:

The ‘V-shaped’ recovery is a clear bullish signal, suggesting that the initial breakdown lacked conviction. Not only has BTC reclaimed the $104K level, but momentum has also flipped back to the bulls.

That said, overall structure remains in bear control—we’re still printing lower highs and lower lows. For full confirmation, BTC must break the previous high to reassert a bullish structure. Failure to do so could bring a retest of the recent low.

Crypto markets took a sharp turn as tensions between the White House’s dynamic duo, President Donald Trump and his long-time ally Elon Musk, boiled over into a very public feud. Once seen as inseparable during the campaign trail, with Musk widely credited as a pivotal force behind Trump’s November victory, the alliance appears to have unravelled.

Only months ago, they were side by side in the Oval Office, Trump signing executive orders favouring Tesla, and even granting Musk leadership of a bespoke agency, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). But the political honeymoon is over.

Rumours had been circulating that Musk had exited the Trump administration. Those whispers turned to headlines overnight as both figures fired shots across social media, Musk on X, Trump on Truth Social. The back-and-forth barbs left little doubt: the bromance is dead.

Markets React with Volatility

The political drama injected a fresh wave of uncertainty across markets, compounding already fragile sentiment from escalating Eastern European tensions and rocky tariff negotiations. Risk appetite dried up.

Traditional indices closed red across the board. Tesla, in particular, plunged nearly 15%, a sharp outlier driven by the fallout. In crypto, the pain was more measured but no less meaningful. Bitcoin slid 3%, Ethereum fell 7.5%, and altcoins bled deeper. The Fear & Greed Index for Bitcoin dropped to 45, slipping back into "fear" territory for the first time since late April.

Bitcoin has broken down from its consolidation range, flipping both momentum and structure in the bears’ favour. The bottom of the range failed to hold, with BTC now retesting the $100,000 level, critical support that must hold to avoid a deeper correction.

As Lyn Alden aptly put it, “Nothing stops this train”—and in the context of US debt, it couldn’t be more accurate. The fiscal circus playing out in Washington has been on full display this past week, with political figures from all sides weighing in as the numbers become impossible to ignore.

The US national debt has surged to a staggering $36.21 trillion, setting yet another all-time high. This runaway train shows no signs of slowing. Even the Department of Government Efficiency can’t rein in spending meaningfully. Elon Musk, speaking under his DOGE persona, highlighted that interest payments alone now consume 25% of all US government revenue, describing the situation as "debt slavery" for Americans.

Vivek Ramaswamy added fuel to the fire, noting that the US now spends more on debt interest than the entire military budget, with projections suggesting the debt could balloon to $60 trillion within the next decade.

Despite this fiscal brinkmanship, Treasury Secretary Bessent assured markets that the US is "never going to default." Yet, in a rare moment of agreement, Trump and Senator Warren have floated the idea of removing the debt ceiling altogether, a move that would give the government unlimited borrowing power. If mishandled, this could dangerously inflate the debt-to-GDP ratio even further.

But a potential lifeline is emerging from an unexpected source. Senator Cynthia Lummis has proposed that a Bitcoin Strategic Reserve could eliminate half of America’s debt burden.

TAO is teetering within its key support zone, and any break below could hand control to the bears. Still, the 55 and 200 EMAs are acting as critical support levels, which could offer near-term relief.

But let’s be clear—TAO will mirror Bitcoin's trajectory. If Bitcoin pulls back, TAO is almost certain to follow.

BTC/USD Key Levels and Price Action:

Bitcoin has lost short-term momentum after yet another rejection at the 0.5 Fibonacci level and 200 EMA resistance at $106K. It now eyes $104K—a crucial support that must hold to avoid slipping back to the $101K zone.

The consolidation range between $106.6K and $104K remains in play. Until either boundary is broken, the structure is technically neutral—but momentum currently favors the bears.

Ethereum has been the clear underperformer of this cycle—still down nearly 50% from its all-time high and nowhere near setting a new one. It hasn’t been able to sustain any meaningful bullish momentum throughout this entire run; every attempt has been met with renewed selling pressure, consistently dragging prices lower.

But for the first time this year, ETH is showing signs of life. After bottoming out at $1,380 in early April, Ethereum has nearly doubled in just eight weeks—significantly outperforming most other cryptocurrencies. This marks the first rally where ETH has managed to sustain and consolidate gains after a breakout, rather than reversing and resuming its downtrend.

This move has been fuelled by institutional demand. Over the past three days of ETF trading, Ethereum has consistently seen net inflows—while Bitcoin ETFs have recorded three consecutive days of outflows. Since May 16, every trading day has brought net inflows into the Ethereum ETF. In parallel, just yesterday it was reported that BlackRock had sold 1,250 BTC (worth $132.72 million) while purchasing 19,070.96 ETH (worth $48.4 million). This suggests that the rally is not just speculative—it’s backed by real institutional accumulation.
The chart above shows Ethereum finally breaking out against Bitcoin. ETH has been in a persistent downtrend relative to BTC since 2021 and hasn’t come close to revisiting its 2017 high of 0.15. While it’s unlikely ETH will return to those previous highs, this breakout is giving holders a much-needed sense of hope. The structure and momentum of ETHBTC have now flipped bullish, indicating that capital is beginning to rotate out of Bitcoin and into Ethereum.

Crucially, ETH is now consolidating above the breakout level—something that didn’t occur during previous rallies, which were swiftly rejected. If this consolidation holds, we could see ETHBTC push towards 0.029–0.03.

This doesn’t mean Bitcoin won’t continue its push toward new all-time highs. It simply suggests that, in the short term, Ethereum may outperform. Historically, this BTC-to-ETH rotation has signalled the start of altseason. It’s still early days—but keep an eye on the ETHBTC chart.

Stormrake Spotlight: Bittensor (TAO) ($393)

TAO has retraced back to the key support zone at $390 after failing to break above the 21EMA over the weekend. It has since bounced nearly 2% from this support and the 55EMA. This level is critical for bulls to defend—failure to hold it could lead to a bearish breakdown and further downside.

BTC/USD Key Levels and Price Action:

Bitcoin managed to fill and neutralise the first bearish supply zone at $106K yesterday. As anticipated, it reached the next zone around $106.7K, which proved too strong for bulls and triggered a reversal. This confluence of the 0.618 fib level and supply zone is pivotal—if BTC breaks above it, we could see a move towards $109K and potentially a retest of the all-time high.

Momentum still favours the bulls, but it’s being tested as BTC battles to stay above the 21 and 55EMA. A failure to hold these levels could send BTC back to $104K, flipping momentum in favour of the bears.

Spot Ethereum ETFs Begin Trading:

Another big day for cryptocurrency as the Ethereum Spot ETF was launched and eclipsed $1 billion of volume in its first day of trading. However, the net inflows of the ETF was just over $100 million. Meaning the outflows from Grayscale totalled almost half a billion dollars.

Similarly to the Spot Bitcoin ETFs first day of trading, it was highly volatile and turned out to be a sell the news event. The day saw a net inflow of $203 million, this was greatly hindered by the mass outflows by Grayscale of almost $500 million. 

There are parallels between Bitcoin and Ethereum price action at the first day of their respective ETFs trading.

  • Both BTC and ETH were approximately 40% away from their previous all time highs.

  • The launch days were ‘sell the news’ events with the majority of the gains and price increase being made in the lead up to the event.

  • Grayscale BTC and ETH ETFs were finally allowed to trade again, which lead to major outflows.

If Ethereum is to follow Bitcoin’s post ETF price action, we may see a retracement in Ethereum’s price due to the mass selling by Grayscale. The first fortnight of BTC ETFs trading saw a 20% retracement in BTC due to Grayscale outflows. A similar trend may occur with ETH as Grayscale outflows should sustain selling pressure on ETH until they exhaust their outflows (a 20% pullback would see Ethereum at ~$2,800).

The ETF hype drove BTC to new ATHs prior to the BTC Halving event, this occurred 2 months after BTC ETF was launched. Aforementioned, ETH is ~40% from its ATH, will we see a new ATH set by ETH in the coming months as a result of the ETFs?

Mt Gox. Continues to Make Repayments:

This positive news has been overshadowed by Mt Gox. moving almost $3 Billion dollars worth of BTC onto exchanges to continue repayments. What was one of the major catalysts of driving BTC down to 54k has reared its ugly head again. If Mt Gox is to sell all of this BTC, then it will outweigh all of the BTC ETF inflows over the last couple weeks which helped BTC recover from $53.5k to the current price. Whilst it is unlikely to see these repayments negate all of the gains BTC saw as a result of the inflows, it would be wise to expect a slight pullback.

If a pullback is to occur, this should be seen as a time to 'buy the dip' before BTC continues on higher.
While the immediate impacts of the Ethereum Spot ETF launch have mirrored the volatility seen with Bitcoin's ETF debut, the long-term outlook remains highly favorable. The initial sell-the-news reaction and significant outflows from Grayscale have temporarily pressured Ethereum's price. However, if Ethereum follows Bitcoin's post-ETF trajectory, any short-term retracements could pave the way for substantial gains and potentially a new all time high in the months ahead. We remain bullish on Ethereum, confident that the long-term effects of an Ethereum ETF will further solidify its position as a leading asset in the cryptocurrency space. The introduction of the ETF is expected to drive increased institutional interest and broader adoption.
