The Market Votes for Certainty

The results are in. The Democrats have swept the midterms, and the market’s reaction over the last 24 hours has been a lesson in how quickly sentiment can flip.
The First Reaction: Sell
As the count began pointing towards a Democratic sweep, the market’s first instinct was to hit the sell button. Bitcoin fell 3% to a new low of $75.6k. S&P 500 futures dropped close to 2% and Nasdaq futures were down nearly 3%.
It was a classic knee-jerk response. Uncertainty around a change in power hit the screens, and risk came off the table fast.
Then the Dust Settled
What followed was the more important move. As buyers stepped in to scoop up the discounts, investors quickly worked out what a Democratic sweep actually brings to the market. Something markets value very highly.
Certainty.
The general consensus is that a Democrat-controlled Congress means a more predictable policy environment, with fewer sudden shocks to markets and global trade than we have seen under full Republican control. After the last two years of tariff headlines, geopolitical tensions, policy reversals and market whiplash, that is a fair assumption for investors to make. Whether it plays out that way remains to be seen, but markets trade on expectations, and the expectation right now is improved stability.
Green Across the Board
The turnaround was broad. Bitcoin is back above $80k, a near 6% swing from yesterdays low. Traditional risk-on markets are firmly in the green, with the Dow Jones leading the way, up more than 3%. Even gold and silver, both currently in bear markets, managed to finish in positive territory.
When equities, precious metals and Bitcoin all rally on the same news, it tells you the market was not reacting to any one asset. It was reacting to the removal of a major unknown.
Bitcoin’s V-Shaped Recovery
The speed of Bitcoin’s reversal deserves attention. In a matter of hours it went from a fresh low to reclaiming $80k, a textbook V-shaped recovery.
Regular readers will remember that in recent Morning Notes we covered the growing chorus of voices calling for $75k and lower. Many were waiting on the sidelines for that level before getting involved.
But the more important detail is not the V shape itself. It is where the low landed. Bitcoin held above its previous higher low of $74.9k, keeping that structure intact, and is now well clear of it.
Those waiting for $75k or lower may have just watched the move happen without them. If Bitcoin can reclaim $83k from here, it would be fair to assume the low is in.
The Lesson
This is an incredibly valuable lesson, and one we have touched on before when looking at the cost of missing the market’s best days.
The moments that feel the most uncertain are often the moments that matter most. The low arrived on fear, and the recovery arrived before most people had time to react. Those waiting for $75k or lower were waiting for a price the market may never offer again.
Even after this move, Bitcoin still looks undervalued. It sits well below its previous highs, and the onchain metrics we have covered in recent Morning Notes continue to point to a market that is far closer to the bottom than the top. The 6% bounce has not changed that picture. If anything, holding above the $74.9k higher low has strengthened it.
The problem with waiting is that you need to be right twice. First on the level, then again on having the conviction to act when the headlines look worst. Most people get neither right. Instead, they watch Bitcoin rally another 10%, tell themselves they will buy the next pullback, and end up chasing the price higher or missing the move entirely.
If you believe in the long-term case for Bitcoin, the time to build a position is while it is still undervalued and sentiment is still shaky. Not after another 10% has already gone by. The market rarely hands out the perfect entry. It gives you a moment of fear, and then it moves on.
That does not mean the volatility is over. Markets will keep digesting what a new Congress means in practice, and there will be more noise along the way. But the last 24 hours showed that the floor held, the structure held, and the window for buying at these levels may not stay open for long.
Stormrake Spotlight: Zcash (ZEC) ($1,306)

ZEC has had a remarkable 24 hours. At one point it was down 5% on the day, before an intraday reversal of more than 12.5% from the low has it now trading 7% higher. The bulls have held that momentum and are now knocking on the door of the bullish reclaim level at $1,385.
If broader market strength continues, the bulls are well placed to reclaim the trend and push back towards new highs.
BTC/USD Key Levels and Price Action:

The intraday reversal is clearly visible above. Bitcoin is now back above the key level at $80.6k and up more than 4% on the day, after being down 3%. The bulls have smashed the bears, liquidated late shorts and flipped momentum firmly back in their favour.
The key level we now turn to is $83k, which has been a pivotal point for Bitcoin for months. If this momentum can carry price to that level and sustain a move above it, it would go a long way to confirming the higher timeframe higher low at $74.9k held, and leave those with lower limit orders sitting on their hands with a decision to make.
